i am BY NO MEANS any sort of cash baller, but i think overbetting works better on the turn. several solid cash players have explained to me that by the river a lot of people are letting go of hands and it can be harder to get paid off. for all you know he had a flush draw that didn't complete. there is also a decent chance he has a K, and may think it is good on the turn. in this case i think the river kinda sucked for you, b/c he probably is putting you on a J w/ that bet.
lj, you are right. I guess I didn't bet enough on the turn. I wanted to try to keep him in. Then after the river, I figured a Jack and only a Jack in his hand would call any bet and then he would call the overbet.
Jamy,
Thanks for the comment earlier. I posted a response if you're interested. I also put up a couple of other posts about a hand I played earlier, I'd love to hear your feedback.
In regards to this post, I agree with LJ on this one. I just don't think there's very many hands that will call such a large overbet - a value bet here's probably a better payoff.
And that'll be the last time I share my thoughts on a cash game hand because I am certainly no expert!
Matt
