Quick boost to the bankroll

I did pull this out after I "Jack"d off from the MATH. The level of play is completely different in these "donkaments" than playing in the blogger tourneys. Not that the bloggers are some kind of elite "poker-deity's" that win all the tournaments, but when you see an $800 bet into a $200 pot, or a super tighty with 5x everyone else's chipstack who can be pushed off of his blinds and or limps, 9 out of 10 times, it is fun to amass some chips. It doesn't take long to identify the good players at your table. Avoid them and punish the donkeys. Oh yeah, and then suck out a couple of times.

1) I have 4 boys and my last child is a girl. She just turned 1 and I fully intend to give her anything and everything she wants anytime she wants it.

2) My 2 year old son is a maniac. He has already had 5 stitches, another time was dropped on his head on a brick fireplace giving him two black eyes (by his brother –not me), and just last night decided to eat one of our snake's frozen mice. He did say that it did not taste good.

3) My 2 year old can also pick his nose with his tongue. He inherited this from his mom –not me.
4) I once got a cat because my house was so quiet (lonely?). Now I retreat to the bathroom once in a while just to have 5 minutes of quiet time. I don’t know where the cat is.

5) I hate writing. Always have. I will never take another class again (yes, I did graduate college) because I never want to write another stupid effin paper. And now I write on this blog. WTF?

6) I was in high school in the 80’s and YES, I did have a mullet. A damn good one.

7) People tell me all the time that I look like Mark McGwire. Once in a while they tell me I look like Keifer Sutherland. Never do they tell me I look like Brad Pitt. What can you do?

How I got "Hi"Jacked

The 8th BBT2 tournament was tonight and I hated JJ. ..



I chipped up early with a slow played AA. Risky, but paid off. Put me in 3 rd place with less than 60 players left. Then I hit QQ and went all in. Alan played me brilliantly by calling with JJ. J on the turn and he is a genius. Aaaaarrrrrggggghhhhhhh, Charlie Brown!



Then I went all in with JJ and Kaja decided to fold. Woo Hoo! Maybe JJ not so bad....



A few hands later, I went all in again with JJ and this time Kaja called me with Ax. One of the 14 Aces hits and IGHN. GG all . . .

I made a comment that I threw up after losing with QQ to Alan's JJ. Kaja suggested I rename my blog "How to throw up after JJ". I LMAO.

Congratulations to Kaja for taking down the title. At least he put my chips to good use. Click over to him and congratulate him yourself...

Friday Night Lights Final Game

Friday night was the last game of the season. Here are some quick facts for you:

Facts about the First String Running Back :
-Fumbled at the 2 yard line giving the opposing team 2 yards to go to get their first touchdown.
-Fumbled a 2nd time in the 4th quarter
-Dropped 3 passes that hit his hands
-Missed a key block on a passing play that caused a sack

Facts about the third string Running Back:
-Brought in for the first time on offense in the third quarter when it was 3rd and 17. Caught a pass and took it 15 yards
-Took 1 handoff for 36 yard touchdown run
-Took 1 kickoff return for 86 yard touchdown run
-Touched the ball 3 times and scored twice

OK, so this may seem a little winy, but you know who Cal is. That's right! He is the 3rd string running back. He was perfect when he was in there. He looked great. He played in the game exactly 5 plays. He got the ball on 3 of them (2 were kickoffs where the opponents squib kicked to keep him from getting the ball) and scored twice. I mean, come the EFF on!

Cal had a fumble in 4 of the first 5 games. Again, I can argue that at least 2 were not his fault, but let us not and move on. When he fumbled, his coach immediately pulled him out of the game and benched him. He dropped a pass one time that hit his hands and the coach didn't put him back in that game, chewed him out in the game and then again during game films.

OK, I have no problem pushing your kids hard. But, I do not agree that being so hard on them that none of them respect you, will get more out of them. Many kids quit this year, and many are talking of not playing next year. Some are even trying to transfer already to other schools to finish out their high school careers under a different head coach. If you are treating some kids like they can do no wrong, and then punishing others for minor incidents, you will lose their respect. This coach just pushed the kids way too hard and then played obvious favorites. And this lost most or all of the kids' respect.

One of the coach's "favorites" was over 10 minutes late to a 6am meeting and started the game that night as usual. The very next week (this last game), Cal was 3 minutes late and he was benched during the first half. He asked me "how is that fair?". "It is not", I told him. But you have to deal with it.

One other weird thing has happened this year. His stats have been wrong sometimes. Never in his favor though. Sometimes, I would have him on more receiving yards than his team reported. Or worse, I would have him with more carries and yards, but it seemed that they credited his stats to the starting running back. Well, now I have proof. At least proof that the stats they turn in aren't accurate. You can click here to try to figure out what is wrong about the stats, or I will summarize.

In this last game, Cal had a 36 yard touchdown run. But for the boxscore stats, the stats person turned in "1 carry for 6 yards". He was only in for 2 offensive plays. Once they threw him the ball and he ran for 15 yards (misreported as 10yards), and the other play was a touchdown. At the top of the stats, they show each touchdown and how it was scored. The top of the stats say he scored a 36 yard TD run. But below that, it says he had 1 carry for 6 yards. Not possible people. Not possible. So I feel validated that they screwed up the stats all year. And, I know the starting running back DID NOT have the total yards that they reported.

So lets look at some Annual numbers (from those very skewed stats we just talked about). I can't really count the total yards because I don't think they are accurate. But the number of touchdowns are 100% correct. And the number of carries/rushes/returns are close.
Cal 35 touches – 5 touchdowns
1st string back: 85 touches – 3 touchdowns

2nd string back: 69 touches - 2 touchdowns

Who would you think is a playmaker? Wouldn't you want to work with your playmaker on how to better carry the ball , or better know the schemes or better something so he can continue scoring you touchdowns more often than the other players on the team. ** I will say there was one player with more touchdowns than Cal . He was the "badass" WR who catches almost everything thrown at him. He had 9 touchdowns on 27 receptions.

But my point is that the 3rd string running back had the 2nd most TD's on the team. Doesn't that elicit a little more consideration??? And if they accurately reported the stats, I believe he would have had the best Yards Per Carry for a running back on the team. Oh wait, you want to argue that he had 2 of his touchdowns on kickoff returns. He still had 3 TD's on 32 touches as a running back. Way ahead of the average for the others.

I'm just saying, you are killing a kids scholarship opportunities when you are benching him because he broke his leg last year in the first game and then you went 2-8. Cal was starting Offense, Deffense, and all special teams at Varsity as a sophomore under this same head coach. This year he was 3rd string running back and played on some of the special teams. Did his talent really drop that low from sophomore to junior year?

This is pure drama. Friday Night Lights at it's best. I fully expect more next year.

After seeing Tony Romo sign that huge contract after he hasn't even played a full season as a starter made me start thinking. You need so many things to fall in to place to really make it to that spot that Tony Romo is at. Think of how many kids had more talent than Tony Romo but never made the grades to continue football, got involved in drugs, got a girlfriend pregnant, or just had poor coaches so quit or never got exposed to a college opportunity. Makes you want to appreciate everything you have.

I see I got tagged. I will get that going later this week. Also, I played in a charity poker tourney on Saturday and have a decent post about that coming as well.

7 tournaments done in the BBT2

I played in the 7th tournament of the BBT2 last night, the Riverchasers. As I usually do, I chipped up early and was in the top 5, only to go out somewhere around the 50% mark. A couple of key hands:

I have 88 in late position, middle player (Bayne) raises 3xBB. I call (mistake #1). BB goes all in for about three times what I just called. Bayne calls. Now I think about this for a while. The only way I am ahead here is if the short stack is on AK, AQ or similar overcards and the middle player is on the same. I can put the short stack on two overcards, but what does the middle player have. A call, not re-raise from him to isolate was interesting. Does that mean he is on two overcards also? What are the odds that both players on on overcards? I did see a hand just about 10min ago where I folded a pocket pair only to see an Ace high win the pot. I decide to call (mistake #2).

Flop comes K4K. Bayne checks. Now, I usually love this pot. I can bet with the 8's and fold to a re-raise if necessary, but usually I am ahead with the 8's here. I check (mistake #3). Now I get it into my head that a check down is the best move since we have the opportunity to take the other player out. But this pot has $6000 in chips and the blinds are 100-200, so it would be a great pot to win. The next two cards fall small and middle player and I both check it down. He flips over 99, and the shortstack shows 88. I didn't realize I was in the pot with a ZERO OUTER. Well I guess I could have ran a miracle straight, but with 2 9's gone, that was a billion to one chance.

So, I did accomplish my mission in that hand: to take out the short stack. Only problem was, it cost me chips to do it. That was a terrible play on my part.

Next terrible play: I have about $2000 in chips with blinds around 150-300(?). I get moved to a new table. I don't really know how everyone is playing, but I decide to steal the blinds if given the opportunity. Very first hand, I am on the button with 10Joff. "What an impressive starting hand" you say? I know, I know. Hard to conceal my joy. The tells were seeping out of me. I raise all in and the BB insta calls. With KK. Hmpf. Sucker hand. Doesn't he know How to fold KK? It's obvious that a shortstack from the button raising all in means I have Aces. He must not have realized this, so his KK held up. Busted me stealing. I'm out of the tournament middle of the pack.

I don't normally make that move, but I was feeling maximum donkeyness. I lose patience. Especially in the blogger tourneys. I need to find the fold button more often. I start feeling pressure when I get under 10 big blinds in my stack and think I have to all in to win a pot.

Oh well, nice thing is, there are 20 more tournaments to get my shot at the TOC seat. I may put together a post for it too. Although, I still can't get over Kaja's post for that contest. Truly amazing.

And one last thing. When I was in the Spookie Wednesday night, I was pimping Mookie to give me a banner if I take him out. Not in the Mookie or even the Dookie, but in the Spookie. I have been trying to get that banner for a couple of months. I've seen most of the ones he has done (or at least that he has on his site and others like MiamiDon's and Bodonkey). Well in this post he mentions not remembering the Spookie. He bubbled and I took him out. I asked if I really get a banner and he said yes. Should I send him an email? I may just wait and see....

Mookie and Spookie

I went out of the Mook about the middle of the pack when I ran 77 into the mighty mighty A9. I was on the button and raised my standard 3xBB. The SB re-raised me and the BB folded. I re-re-raised all in. The SB had me covered and was pot committed. I don't mind his play at all. But it got me to thinking, should I have folded to the re-raise? Obviously he has an A or two over cards on me. He could have had 88 through QQ also which would have dominated me. My best case scenario was realized when he flipped over the Ace-rag, but even then, I was only a 57% favorite. Actually best case would have been a kicker between 2-6, which would have bumped my win % to 70%. I managed to dodge the 14 Aces in a fulltiltpoker deck but then a 9 on the river sealed my fate.

So, it was a coin flip. I don't like leaving a tournament on a coin flip. I would rather get my money all in with a 70% or better chance. You may well know that if you have played against me. I can be pushed out of a pot, but I try to play exactly the same with 50% chance or 70% chance. So hopefully, you don't know when to push on me.

But my question is still this: Do you put your tournament on the line with 77? I know I had less than 10 orbits in me. Maybe as low as 5.

Oh well, first 3 BBT2 tourneys and I placed top 25%. Last 3 no points. I need to get back to work on those points, eh ALAN?
