Ugh, I really shouldn't say, but I'm not going to B.S. around either.
Dealt to heffmike [8h 8s]
I standard open to 925 at 150/300/25 from MP, you repop from the button to 2250, and you cover me.
First reaction was, it's a pretty easy fold, I'm never good here - but then I thought, f-it, I don't want to do that, how can I win this hand?
You're never folding AA/KK/AK, rarely folding QQ/JJ, maybe dumping AQ/TT/99 and snap-mucking worse. Even though the 3b size screams value, something didn't feel right.
So, what can I do to tell you I haz big pair? Fake tank, call for time, then jam when we both know I should be getting called every time.
Sure looks like AA/KK/QQ, and tbh I'd shove those hands the same way preflop in hopes of getting a stubborn call from JJ/AQ.
I'm shocked you folded regardless of your holding. I figured I'd have to spike a set or hold vs. AK.
I do reckless, stupid things against solid thinking players if I know they aren't monkey calling stations.
Most of the time, though, I would have JJ crushed with this line. Just not this time.
the key was the fake tank. If you snap shove, I call. As you are tanking, I decide you are trying to trap me with AA, KK, or QQ. If you have Ax, then I am flipping and not really interested in losing a lot of chips on a flip.
Lately, I have been more cautious in tournaments. Sometimes it pays off. Sometimes it doesn't (like this time). I'm still trying to figure out if it is +EV.
The fake tank was brilliant as it sold the big hand.
I really respect your play though so I appreciate your explanation of the hand. I really wish I had more opportunities to discuss hands with good players.
One of the many problems of the Mookie lately is that the fields have been small and we're getting too familiar with each others play. I say that because I was almost jumping up and down on my bed yelling "fake tank" on this play. Good to see I sniffed it out. However, heffmike probably had a better chance winning with a hand like 8-8 since he has gotten coolered more times than I can even remember. *grin*
Another problem with the Mookie, unfortunately, has been the increase in douchebaggery, most often exhibited by a few select entrants -- which was evident again tonight. I still play it almost every week since it seems to be one of the few universal events left among our broad blogger community. We need to get more people in the Mookie, however, so that the douchebag stuff seems minimized.
And oh yeah -- don't pull that A-A crap on me anymore when I hit top two on the flop, okay? : o )
Sorry about the set of Aces to your top two. OK, no I'm not. ;)
I agree that we need more players. When someone like VBpro (who barely knows me) starts throwing daggers, people won't come back and play in the Mookie next time. At least I know I don't feel like playing if he is going to be there.
Maybe I'm being overly sensitive. If he appologized and said "I was just trying to TILT you", then I would totally understand. But I feel he was just being a DICK. And quite frankly, I can find that in any online tournament. I like and respect the players in the MOOKIE.

Thanks for the explanation of your hand.

Well, all the players except one now.
