I've been arguing for a few years with the local schools about their use of technology and what they should be teaching kids. And keep in mind, I have my degree in Computer Science.
To me, the single most important concepts we can teach our children are the rules of logic and reason. Problem solving is the underlying foundation by which all of our tech work.
Spending millions of dollars on computers that will be obsolete before they get plugged in is stupid.
Teaching kids Excel and Word isn't really preparing them for anything.
2 of the programming languages I was taught in college are no longer used and the language I program in now most often hadn't been invented yet, but the concepts of for loops and recursion (problem solving) are essential no matter what I do. The language is just the vehicle used to express those simple concepts.
