Wednesday night MOOKIE

The BLUES did not win last night. But it was an intense, exciting, fun game to be at. Just wish the end results were better.

Played in the MOOKIE tonight. Went up and down a bit in the first half hour. I had AA and open raised from the button. Fold. Fold. Win 90 chips.

2nd time I get AA. 1 raise and a call ahead of me. I min-reraise. Call Call. Flop comes with nothing special. first player bets pot, next calls and I go all in. Someone flopped a set and I go home.

That's an interesting spot. I think the flop was 7810rainbow. With AA and two people in heavy, do you fold there? I don't think I could. How do you read for a set. Or should I have shoved pre instead of min raised?

Oh well, this weekend I play live for the WSOP Main Event seat. I'll know by about 4pm on Saturday if I win or not. I plan to celebrate Saturday night. . .

Read all about it! JJOK wins with JJ

Congrats to JJOK for winning the Mookie tonight. His winning hand?

Special congrats to Shabazz for getting so close. He has got to finish strong in the overall points at the end of three months. Seems like he is at every final table.

And congrats to my buddy theCloserX5. He got in the points again. Don't underestimate my statement when I tell you: HE IS A POINTS WHORE.... try to get in the points more often than he does. I dare you..... LOLOLOLOL

OH and by the way, I finished 6th in my WSOP WB tournament. I have 1 tourney left and I am in first place by .7 points. I think 3rd place is too far from me to catch me, but we'll see. I should be good for a $1500 seat unless I get arrested on the way to the tournament. But I plan on seeing YOU at the Main Event....

I almost made something happen online

I was chip leader with 17 left. That's a good shot at getting a BBT4 seat.

I couldn't finish it out but the reality is, I made a bad play with AJ all in from MP after a Raise. I reraised all in and he called with AQ. I didn't improve so that was it for me. I was disappointed but happy with how I ended up overall. At one point I was at $1300 with 80/160 blinds.

Mookie Bubble

I was pretty happy with my play in the MOOKIE last night. There were 3 critical hands IMO that made me finish 10th out of 98. I hated being the bubble boy, but to be honest, I was not playing like we were on the bubble. Sometimes I do and tighten "the hell up". But last night I was playing for the win so needed to try to build my chips while we were playing 5 handed.

Critical Hand #1: We all know bloggers love to steal. With antes on the board, stealing becomes essential to all good poker players late in a tournament (Note: I am not equating "bloggers" with "good poker players"... ). OMGitsPokerFool (who I do think is a good player) puts a standard 3x bet from the button while I'm in the small blind. He has almost 2x the chipstack I do and I'm getting fairly low. I attempt a resteal with 45sooooted by shoving all in. A true "steal attempt" has to fold. I got busted though as OMGitsPokerFool shows AQoff and I prepare to leave the tournament. 5 comes on the flop and no improvement for him and I double up. This gave me enough chips to get back into the rotation for steals.

Critical Hand #2: We are playing 5 handed with 10 players left in the tournament. Joanne1111 shoves with a short stack and I decide to call for about 40% of my stack with 77. She shows JJ and I don't improve. I am now ranked 8 out of 10, where I could have been 3rd if I won a coin flip. Looking back, it was a bad call, but I figured her range to be pretty wide with 500/1000 blinds and antes and she only had about 8,000 in front of her. I thought it would be a coin flip and I figured it was worth the risk. Good hand to her.

Critical Hand #3: I'm in the sb and everyone folds around to me. I have 88. We are 5 handed still and I figure any pocket pair has got to be good. I have about 14,000 in chips left and heffmike is in the bb with about 30,000+ in chips. I raise 4x bb and heffmike comes over me all in. I have to put him on a pretty wide range considering I'm only showing 10,000 chips left. I call and he tables 99. Again, it was bad to consider flipping here, I just get tired of blinds firing back at you every time you raise them. I'm sure heffmike agrees. Best case I had to dodge 2 overs. I go home bubble boy.

Oh well. I'm getting a feel for these players again. It's really been over a year since I played consistently in blogger tournaments. I'm having a great time. If your not playing, you should be. Next tournament is Sunday. You can check the leaderboard to see where everyone is. There are still lots of good players with -0- points. Start now and you aren't really behind.

See you in the next one. Stay patient.....

Going DOWN?

It's funny how you can know the right choice, yet still not choose it. Why is this? It is plain as day that if you want to go UP in an elevator, yet you push the DOWN button, you will not get to where you are going. DUH! So you push UP to go UP.

But when playing poker, you (actually, I'll just say me -not you) sometimes push the down button when you want to go up. First example: I'm playing in the FTOPS last night (event #1) and I build up an average chip stack by the first break. 30 minutes later I am up to almost 8000 in chips from our starting stack of 5000. I'm playing good, not great. I'm making some good reads but I'm bluffing way too much.

From the big blind I check to the button limp with Q10off suit. The flop comes A24 rainbow. I lead out for 3/4 of the pot and the button calls. He didn't insta-call but didn't take forever thinking about it either. I should know right here that I'm done with this hand. But here is where I push the DOWN button to go UP. The turn brings another Ace. I fire out another 3/4 pot size bet and he comes over me all in. I have him covered but obviously have no business being in this hand. I fold and lose a good chunk of chips, unnecessarily.

Second example: I'm down to 3500 in chips, and I guess I'm tilty. I'm watching lots and lots of action at the table which should tell me: Only push the UP button to go UP - TIGHTEN UP. Instead, I min-raise from middle position with 78sooted. Only the BB calls. The flop comes K83 with no colors to help my flush draw. BB checks to me and I fire out a pot sized bet. He thinks for a bit and calls. Now, I'm not putting him on a King, but I don't finish thinking the hand through. The turn brings a Queen. He checks and I fire all in. He thinks for a moment and calls and shows QJ and the Queen holds to take me out.

I know: terrible play! I either need to push on the flop, or get out of the hand altogether. If I think both of those hands through, I could have made better choices, but I snapped off pushing the DOWN button when I should have pushed UP.

Last example: Playing in the MOOKIE last night. I have QQ and raise preflop and get one caller: Texansbaby . Flop comes 10 high with no obvious draw. I lead with 1/2 pot sized bet and Texansbaby raises me 3x my bet. Here is where I could 1)think the hand through or 2)quickly push the DOWN button and hope my elevator takes me UP. I obviously picked #2. I shove, she calls and her AA takes me out. I could have realized she has JJ, KK or AA and since she called my pre-flop raise instead of re-raising me, it's obviously AA.

Anyway... That's why poker is such an evil game. Sometimes I just get caught up in my cards rather than paying attention to what the action in the hand is telling me. There is always a story, you just have to take the time to read it.

Good thing poker isn't my day job.
Stay patient....

Free FTOPS seat!

If your looking to get into an FTOPS X event still, the MOOKIE is giving you a shot tonight. On top of the regular prize money, there will be 1 entry awarded to the first place finisher for FTOPS event #24.

Unfortunately, I won't make it. I'm going to the first round of the playoffs for my son's high school football team. He is still rehabbing his ACL from his recent surgery, so he won't be playing, but it should be a great game to watch just the same.

Stay patient (very, very patient for at least 4 years)....

I'm not the one that just got buttfucked on national TV, Dwayne!

Such a great line from Die Hard 1 . I love those movies.

Cal finished 12th in state out of 15 total. He ran his worst race all year. Bummer for him, but still I am proud he made state. He ran the same heat with the kid who holds the state record for the 200meter (set last year), so I think he may have been a little starstruck.

Wednesday night poker. Sucks for me. In Mook Stayed in for awhile, but then ran KK into AQ. I had him covered so got another chance 2 hands later with A6 and the same player called me with KQ. Queen on the flop and I am done. Sucked!!!!

One more try in the next tourney. I get AA and decide to trap. It works perfectly as I get the one and only Mookie to call my all in from the turn with only 77. Sucker!!! Oh wait, 7 on the river and Mook takes me down.

Three hands all in and three times ahead and three losses. Oh well. I run goot!. Not as goot as Fuel55, but I run Goot!

Queen of the Mookie

Congratulations to LJ for taking down the Mookie last night. Click on her name to go congratulate her yourself. She played a tough heads up match to get the win! Way to go!

Great job to GCox25 for finishing 2nd. He was really playing well also.

At my starting table I had MiamiDon on my immediate left and Cracknaces on my right. They are two very aggressive players and both have knocked me out of tournaments before. I managed to hold my own and within 30 minutes got moved to another table. I played fairly solid poker, but never managed to chip up much. I would go down to 1,000 then back up to 3000.

With about 3500 in chips, I got moved back to a table with MiamiDon now on my immediate right. I know Don likes to steal blinds, ESPECIALLY mine, so I would have to be careful not to get into trouble with him. One particular hand, he min raised my BB and I made a loose call with J4 sooooooted. The flop comes J high -no 4 but I have 4 to the flush. Don bets out and I re-raise him with my TPWK. Don comes back over the top all in. Now I know Don likes to put the pressure on. I put his range here to include QK same suit as the board, QQ, or a flopped set. I know he could also have trash but calling his all in would end my tournament and I can't see going out on Top Pair with a 4 kicker, so I let it go. He shows J8, so I was outkicked. I have about 1000 in chips again.

I tighten up and manage to chip back up to nearly 4000 in chips. On this next hand, Don is UTG+2 with about 5000 in chips and it folds to him. He makes a pot sized bet which is about 15% of his stack. I have AA and decide to call to see if I can either get another player in or trap Don. Usually, I will raise this hand to isolate, but given Don's aggressive play, I wanted to mix it up. Everyone else folds and we are heads up, which is perfect for me. The flop comes rags 9 high no flush or straight. Don bets out the pot. I don't think I could lay this down anyway, but his large bet assured me he didn't have the set. I went all in, he called and flipped over 1010. The 10 on the river sends me home. As quick as that and I am gone. Sucked, but I felt like I was playing pretty well, and I am not getting out of that hand without putting all my chips in against Don. I mean, he will put the pressure on if I tried to control the pot size anyway.

In the Dookie, we played limit Hold'em turbo. Made it to the final table where basically everyone there had an M of 5 or lower due to the turbo blind increases. I finished 5th with no major suckouts or brilliant plays that I remember. I'm sure I sucked out a few times, but every hand seemed like you were pot committed as soon as you entered it.

Stay patient...

Congratulations to Emptyman for taking down the Mookie. I felt I was card dead all night. I pushed chips back and forth early on, mostly with bluffs or semi-bluffs. People started calling me or re-raising me too frequently, so I decided to switch to a ROCK and then went for what seemed like forever without anything. The highest pocket pair I remember was 88. I raised it, and someone re-raised me all in. I folded and instead decided to push all in a few orbits later with A9sooooooted. Ooops. I got a caller and that was enough to know I was beat.
I played terrible last night in every game I was in. I played the Tier II token Frenzy, built up an above average chip stack, then blew it all on a bluff. Caller tanked for a while as he only had me covered by a few hundred chips, and then called my all in with second pair weak kicker. That was enough to eliminate me. I guess I want that call 90% of the time, but that was how I was running last night. He called an all in with 2nd pair 7 kicker! I guess that is what I get for being the idiot -I mean donkey.
I played 6 more SNG's last night to see just how bad I was running (only cashed in 1 of them). Mostly donkey played again. I was feeling very confident in my play up until this week -especially when I dumped all my chips in the MATH to lucko. That turned me around and I haven't been able to get back right since. Come to think of it, that was the exact moment things went sour. I was easily going to cash and I shoved two hands in a row to exit the tournament on the bubble. My head is still spinning from that. What a stupid move on my part. Of course, alcohol has been involved this week. I tend to make smarter moves when we are out of beer at home. I mean, my SNG winnings graph looks like a seismograph during a 6.0 earthquake. It's pathetic.

I need to take a break, read a book or two, and then come back refreshed. Unfortunately, we have two more BBT2 tourneys to play and then the TOC and Leaderboard Freeroll next week. Oh well. Maybe I can figure it out before next week. I do know that everyone expects me to be dead money in those two tournaments next week. Maybe I can prove someone wrong.

Don't make fun of my young looks

Hawkette shot this picture of me last night playing in the Mookie. You can see by my smile that it was before I ran my mighty 44 into 123skidoo's AT o/s. I was shortstacked and he was not, so no big deal. And don't make fun of me for putting my Soco in a sippy cup. It keeps me from gulping too much and I never spill a drop.

Don't forget about the Riverchasers tonight. Only 5 more shots to get your seat in the TOC.

Hope all the bloggers in Vegas are having a KICKASS time!

Stay patient....

Another final table in the Mookie

I final tabled the Mookie. It was my 6th final table in 16 tries but still no win. Gotta keep working to get the profile. I was doing pretty well last night when I ran AQ all in pre-flop to the mighty A10. The 10 beat me with a straight filling in on the river and I lost half my stack. No worries, though as the very next hand was QQ and my all in was called by AA. Those beeeetches have not been very nice to me lately. Better luck next time.

I felt I played a very solid game last night, without a single suckout. That's right, not one. I was ahead going in to every race. And they all held up, until the final two hands. I guess it was just my lucky night -until I went out. Oh well.

Congratulations to RecessRampage for taking it down! Only a few TOC spots left and he got one last night. Click on his name to check out how he did it.

I am meeting with a real estate agent tonight about putting my house up for sale. Hawkette set up the meeting with no regard to the Riverchasers tournament. ; ) Just kidding. She is so cool about my poker that I could tell her to deal with the agent on her own and let me play, and she would. But I will be attending that meeting, so GL to everyone tonight. Donkin in the Mook

Last night was the mookie and here is how some of the drama played out:

*Kaja did not hit a 5th final table. Click his name to see how he went out even before I did. *Astin took the lead by finishing in the points for a 6th time. He also hit his 2nd, 2nd place finish. Impressive, but must sting not getting the TOC seat when that close twice. Third time's a charm, right?

*RaisingCayne finally busted his cherry and got some points in his 9th BBT2 tourney played. Congrats Cayne. I'm sure you'll be there a lot more over the next half.

*And then there was me, jamyhawk . Could I prove that Monday's MATH win wasn't 100% luck and finish strong in a non-turbo tournament? Not tonight. I donked off some chips chasing draws, then pushed all in with QQ against a loose player. I got my wish and he called with A8o/s. Flop brings a Q, but turn and river each are needed to fill in the A high straight and I go home around 80th. Maybe I can do it tonight.

8pm CST on Fulltiltpoker.com Password: riverchasers

Tune in for the excitement. The top person on the leaderboard after tonight's game, gets a buyin to the FTOPS main event. A final table appearance by anyone in the top 5 could move that player into first (if none of the other 4 finish in the top 20 in the tournament). Astin and Kajagugu each have an impressive 4 final tables. Really think about that. 100+ players in the Mookie and Riverchaser tournaments, plus close to 90 in the MATH tournaments and they have rolled up to the end 1 out of every 3 times they play. I'd love to go on a run like that. And I would expect to see a big run from some of these strong players (hoyazo , willwonka , RaisingCayne , and RecessRampage) who have all finished in the points just one time each after 12 tournaments have been played (not each of them has played in all twelve, HOY).

Come play with us. Anyone with a password is able. And get ready for this:

I can't wait for the superstacks....
Remember to stay patient...

I am so happy I went out in the middle of the pack again (63 of 107). I am stuck in donkey pergatory. Seems I am back to playing "gooutinthemiddlepoker". I am planning on hitting the books again and trying to fix this leak. Seems I should learn to STAY PATIENT.

7 tournaments done in the BBT2

I played in the 7th tournament of the BBT2 last night, the Riverchasers. As I usually do, I chipped up early and was in the top 5, only to go out somewhere around the 50% mark. A couple of key hands:

I have 88 in late position, middle player (Bayne) raises 3xBB. I call (mistake #1). BB goes all in for about three times what I just called. Bayne calls. Now I think about this for a while. The only way I am ahead here is if the short stack is on AK, AQ or similar overcards and the middle player is on the same. I can put the short stack on two overcards, but what does the middle player have. A call, not re-raise from him to isolate was interesting. Does that mean he is on two overcards also? What are the odds that both players on on overcards? I did see a hand just about 10min ago where I folded a pocket pair only to see an Ace high win the pot. I decide to call (mistake #2).

Flop comes K4K. Bayne checks. Now, I usually love this pot. I can bet with the 8's and fold to a re-raise if necessary, but usually I am ahead with the 8's here. I check (mistake #3). Now I get it into my head that a check down is the best move since we have the opportunity to take the other player out. But this pot has $6000 in chips and the blinds are 100-200, so it would be a great pot to win. The next two cards fall small and middle player and I both check it down. He flips over 99, and the shortstack shows 88. I didn't realize I was in the pot with a ZERO OUTER. Well I guess I could have ran a miracle straight, but with 2 9's gone, that was a billion to one chance.

So, I did accomplish my mission in that hand: to take out the short stack. Only problem was, it cost me chips to do it. That was a terrible play on my part.

Next terrible play: I have about $2000 in chips with blinds around 150-300(?). I get moved to a new table. I don't really know how everyone is playing, but I decide to steal the blinds if given the opportunity. Very first hand, I am on the button with 10Joff. "What an impressive starting hand" you say? I know, I know. Hard to conceal my joy. The tells were seeping out of me. I raise all in and the BB insta calls. With KK. Hmpf. Sucker hand. Doesn't he know How to fold KK? It's obvious that a shortstack from the button raising all in means I have Aces. He must not have realized this, so his KK held up. Busted me stealing. I'm out of the tournament middle of the pack.

I don't normally make that move, but I was feeling maximum donkeyness. I lose patience. Especially in the blogger tourneys. I need to find the fold button more often. I start feeling pressure when I get under 10 big blinds in my stack and think I have to all in to win a pot.

Oh well, nice thing is, there are 20 more tournaments to get my shot at the TOC seat. I may put together a post for it too. Although, I still can't get over Kaja's post for that contest. Truly amazing.

And one last thing. When I was in the Spookie Wednesday night, I was pimping Mookie to give me a banner if I take him out. Not in the Mookie or even the Dookie, but in the Spookie. I have been trying to get that banner for a couple of months. I've seen most of the ones he has done (or at least that he has on his site and others like MiamiDon's and Bodonkey). Well in this post he mentions not remembering the Spookie. He bubbled and I took him out. I asked if I really get a banner and he said yes. Should I send him an email? I may just wait and see....

Stay patient...

Mookie and Spookie

I went out of the Mook about the middle of the pack when I ran 77 into the mighty mighty A9. I was on the button and raised my standard 3xBB. The SB re-raised me and the BB folded. I re-re-raised all in. The SB had me covered and was pot committed. I don't mind his play at all. But it got me to thinking, should I have folded to the re-raise? Obviously he has an A or two over cards on me. He could have had 88 through QQ also which would have dominated me. My best case scenario was realized when he flipped over the Ace-rag, but even then, I was only a 57% favorite. Actually best case would have been a kicker between 2-6, which would have bumped my win % to 70%. I managed to dodge the 14 Aces in a fulltiltpoker deck but then a 9 on the river sealed my fate.

So, it was a coin flip. I don't like leaving a tournament on a coin flip. I would rather get my money all in with a 70% or better chance. You may well know that if you have played against me. I can be pushed out of a pot, but I try to play exactly the same with 50% chance or 70% chance. So hopefully, you don't know when to push on me.

But my question is still this: Do you put your tournament on the line with 77? I know I had less than 10 orbits in me. Maybe as low as 5.

Oh well, first 3 BBT2 tourneys and I placed top 25%. Last 3 no points. I need to get back to work on those points, eh ALAN?

I did place in the money in the SPOOKIE. It was just that: Spookie! What fun. Thanks to InstantTragedy for setting it up.
